Stroke Awareness

GET TO KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS OF STROKE

From the American Heart Association:

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
Not all these warning signs occur in every attack. If some start to occur, don't wait. Call 9-1-1 to get medical help immediately!

From the American Stroke Association:
Three simple questions to ask if you think someone may be having a stroke:
  1. Ask the individual to SMILE.
  2. Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
  3. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (coherently).
If the person has difficulty with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
